Building Your Business by Human Design

Businesses are unnecessarily complex. Inefficiencies bleed money. Your goal in business is to keep as much profit as you can, in the easiest way possible, especially if you are a soloprenur or small business owner. If you are working just as hard in your business as you did at your corporate job, if not more so, then you don’t have a business, you have a JOBBY, i.e. a job that is also your favorite hobby, that comes along with a list of things you are paying other people to do or doing it yourself instead of doing what you got into business to do in the first place!

The number one mistake I see new entrepreneurs make is creating complexity from the beginning.

My first business was a JOBBY. It required ‘hats’ and ‘partners’ and ‘employees’ that took my profit out the door each month, leaving little left for me. I was having a lot of fun, learned a ton of things, and I also worked myself into the ground that took me selling the business to recover fully.

Once you build and sell your first company, and then SOAR in and do it all over again for a nonprofit, you start to get a little tired of this JOBBY bullshit. Which is what drove me to found OWL based on ease and flow, keeping as much of my income as possible, and not even including tasks that don’t light me up! There’s a novel concept—building a business based almost entirely on the things you love to do! (The government requires you to pay taxes…)

What if, you just built a business that didn’t include things you don’t want to do!?

There were a few things I got right the first time, thanks to my ADHD and the magic of timing the Facebook market before they went IPO and charged for Ads and created an algorithm that requires expertise. Without knowledge of Human Design, just knowledge of my own design and watching others build a CrossFit company first hand, I naturally grew revenues month-over-month, never once dipping into the Red, with zero dollars allocated into a marketing budget. I was the marketing, and it turns out sitting in a park and letting people find me is exactly how I’m meant to market by my design, keeping as much profit as possible along the way.

I didn’t call the media, I responded to them calling me. I unknowingly followed my strategy of being patient, waiting for the universe to provide the right timing to ‘respond.’ My marketing budget, if you could call it that, was minimal, consisting mostly of wearable gear I sold at just above cost, car bumper stickers given away that cost less than $100, and non-profit fundraisers with t-shirts to advertise and engage our community. I was visible, and as a brick and mortar business, I (the face of the brand) was also accessible to the public.

Meet the owner of the gym! Take a tour! Try out your first 5 minute workout! Hear my success story! And by the way, check out our monthly spotlights featuring our members and their success, which can also be your success too! This was my marketing by design, even before I knew it. So why did I still have a JOBBY?

Greed. Desire. Longing for love. These are the reasons we get conned and sold into a JOBBY.

Being whoo you are and Doing what lights you up will OWLways lead to prosperity. Desiring the success will not. Sure you might make a shit ton of money, but spoiler alert, rich folks aren’t always mentally and physically prosperous either. The one thing you can’t seem to con yourself into is joy and fulfillment. Eventually it runs out.

When I read in my HD chart that I’m designed to prosper in partnership, which can cause me to place an over-reliance on partnerships, it OWL made sense. I got greedy with bringing in a 3rd business partner I really didn’t need. Even worse, I desired a relationship with their spouses, and longed for a business that was more like a family. When I read in my chart that my 0-7 wound included a longing for kinship so badly I would join an L.A. gang just to get it, it OWL made sense yet again. I didn’t even like being called boss at first, I so much just wanted to feel belonging and love.

Greed doesn’t always involve money. The main reason I had a JOBBY was because I broke the golden rule of entrepreneurship—pay yourself first— the root of my greed, desire and longing to be loved.

So what’s the better way to build a business? Well first, you become YOU, by understanding whooo you were designed to be before you were born into someone else’s story. When you understand your Type, Strategy, Profile (costume the world sees you in) and your Brand (personality), you will instinctively begin know how to SOAR in life, and build your business to SOAR alongside you.

There is an electromagnetic energy field surrounding and extending outward from every living thing. In the case of human beings, that field extends about 3 feet (two arms lengths) in every direction from the body. Human Design refers to your Auric Presence in the world as your Type. As Ra Uru Hu, Founder of Human Design says, Auras are a full expression of your Being, an agent of the way the form (your body) is going to work. Auras are the way we connect to and are experienced by the other.

This is your greatest marketing tool—YOU! By design you pull people in, and keep others away. Unless of course you are a Projector, with an aura that keeps no one away! How great for you to pull OWL the people in for selling! Just know, they won’t all be there to buy.

Ready to SOAR in life with more ease and flow? Want to learn how to harness your energy and get exactly what you want by being more yourself.
