Free your Mind and the Rest will Follow

(Insert En Vogue song here and tune in below).

Why oh why must it be this way. Before you can read me, you got to learn how to see me. Free your mind and the rest will follow. Be color blind, don’t be so shallow.

What would it be like to free your mind from all that it currently knows and remove the ‘color-tinted glasses’ created by the brain’s fight or flight response in order to keep you ‘safe’ from danger? For this girl with ADD, it almost felt almost impossible to free myself from the ever-distracting thoughts of the mind. It seems like I had read every book, attended all the webinars, and invested in coaching to try and control my thoughts and create new habits, and yet ‘the rest’ had yet to follow.

Here I was, still not fully at choice with where my thoughts my wander off to next, wearing the 30+ years of ‘color tinted glasses’ to keep me safe from those that might hurt me in my mind again. Yes, in my mind, because my body was never physically abused, other than the garbage food I put it in and the copious amounts of depression naps I took during the darker days of being stuck solving the world’s problems in my head. My mind made all those choices for me, despite what my body, heart and soul wanted to do. I was not free. The Judge of Self, i.e. the amygdala, was running the show, and I felt almost powerless to stop it.

I almost didn’t do a lot of things in my life, including listening to OWL the people I met whoo suggested I try meditation to free my mind. If I had a dollar for every stranger I met whoo stopped to say, “Have you ever considered meditation or yoga…” I would probably be writing this blog from a beach somewhere. I get it people, I have ADD and a lot of energy. Imagine if I suggested to strangers that they join a gym or try taking a nutrition class…but I digress. After what felt like the thousandth time hearing this, I decided to listen to the universe and ‘flirt’ with meditation and enroll in a mindfulness program..or rather the universe decided for me. I happened to host a podcast with an incredible meditation teacher, Nandar Matari and the former CEO of the Co-Active Training Institute where I received my coaching and leadership training (Shirzad Chamin) offered a FREE 6-week mindfulness program that only required 10 seconds to build my ‘self-command’ muscle in my mind. When the universe flirts this hard with you, it’s time to take action. And this action was so life-changing, this Positive Intelligence app is part of my signature Rewrite Your Story program.

Fast forward 2 years later and ‘the rest’ is starting to follow. What started out as a 10 second practice has built itself into a 15 minute mental fitness ritual that includes walking barefoot in the grass to soak up all the antioxidants in the earth and practicing mindfulness as I sit and listen to nature. I have a much great command of my mind, and more importantly, I no longer entertain thoughts that do not serve me. Those ‘color-tinted glasses’ created in my mind to keep me safe are fading and I’m once again able to see ME again! The ‘me’ that is free from judgement and emotional wounds created in mind.

Where do you want to free your mind so ‘the rest’ can follow? What ‘color-tinted glasses’ does your mind create to keep you ‘safe’? More importantly, whoo will help you ‘see’ your mind so that you can start to ‘read’ yourself in a way that makes everything possible? Is it me? Schedule your free connection call and find out!
