The Magic of Synchronicity…

For those of you that didn’t spend your entire life hearing your dad talk about synchronicity, Webster defines it as: the simultaneous occurrence of events which appear significantly related but have no discernible casual connection. Like birds that synch up together for their annual trip south for the winter, humans like you and me also seem to find our way to one another, which is arguably why if I were to sum up my entire corporate coaching experience, week after week, it can only be described as the Magic of Synchronicity…

Each week, seemingly out of the ashes of coaching conversations a theme appears, like a thread that magically connects each completely unrelated client to the next, in the most unexpected and serendipitous ways. This isn’t something I consciously think about so much as just my lived experience of what happens. I can’t help but smile each time, occasionally a loud chuckle escapes as I marvel at how funny our Creator must be to arrange for this very moment to occur.

I laugh because I’m not actively looking for these things to happen nor do I expect them to happen, and yet I know that of course they will happen—these things OWLways happen to me. Arguably these synchronicities make me the most interesting woman in the world, and I should probably write about them more often and include them in my book…OWL wait for the universe to synch up and let me know if that’s a good idea first. But I digress…back to this week’s coaching synchronicities and how they benefit you.

My favorite part about these synchronicities is how nicely they all seem to come together by the end of the week. Whoooever holds a Friday time slot with me seems to sum up the theme of the week for many of my clients, and for myself, almost like tying a beautiful bow on the end of the week in an eloquently worded way. These Friday clients seem to have a Quantum Impact on my future clients, as these themes will pop up again throughout the following week, only this time I have their eloquently worded example to share or an insight of my own to share that was sparked from that client’s brilliant mind.

I refer to these synchronicities as ‘Quantum Flirts’ with the universe, and I confess, I LOVE flirting with the universe! Right on cue today, after writing the first 2 paragraphs, I met with 3 clients whooo surprised me as much as they summed up the Themes of the Week: Finding Purpose and Meaning, Delegating Influence, and Celebrating Success. Even more remarkable, my last client summed up what this entire blog really is about by asking me a powerful question:

“Is the idea that if I live my life more aligned with my Human Design, I will experience more synchronicities?”

Honestly, before this client I wasn’t entirely sure where I even wanted to take this synchronistic blog post. Leave it to a 4/6 Manifesting Generator to speak into existence the perfect point of sharing OWL of today’s synchronicities with you. Understanding how your energy is designed to be used—how your personality, aura, and inner authority are mechanically meant to interact with the world—OWL of this information is like coming home to yourself in the most authentic way possible.

1) Finding Purpose and Meaning
The ever elusive purpose…oh how sweet it is when I get to shine a light of truth about a client’s purpose. This week was full of humans searching for meaning and purpose in a world where the economy is in a recession and the world of work was not OWL that they dreamed it would be. 9 out of 10 times when a client has been on a quest to find their purpose, they almost owlways have an open G-Center in their Human Design—their purpose is to not have a fixed purpose or identity. For many clients learning this about themselves feels like a relief, and in some cases it also involves a release of tears, an emotional reaction from inside a body that has been trapped by societies insistence that everyone must have a specific purpose. My 4/6 Manifesting Generator summed up this week’s theme perfectly with her Mark Twain quote:

There are two important moments in a person’s life. The day they are born, and the day they discover their purpose.

At the age of 62, this client received knowledge of her purpose, which doesn’t technically exist in her open G-Center…(insert tears here). Like a dagger to her heart (her exact words), discovering this elusive thing you’ve been searching for your entire life doesn’t really apply can feel quite jarring. When I shared her Gene Keys report with her that shines a light on how her purpose is “to be surprised and surprise others along the way,” well according to her rating after our session, this information was “Amazing” (somehow not life-changing:) and she said it “took me my surprise, which apparently falls right in line with my purpose. Mission accomplished!” What a fabulous ending to a week full of people searching for purpose and meaning!

2) Delegating Influence
A phrase coined by another fabulous Friday client, this time a 6/2 Manifesting Generator, Delegating Influence is a brilliant way of integrating OWL of his knowledge on borrowing influence, developing a strategic career circle, and delegating tasks. Delegation is a general theme with OWL of my clients that are people managers, however this week gaining more influence was top of mind for those navigating a reorg and working with less man power. In the world of work where whooo knows you and what you do makes OWL the difference in landing a promotion or getting your project funded, this idea of working together as a cross-functional team, delegating influence through connections and borrowing influence as mentioned in this Ted Talk here felt like a brilliant way to end the week.

This is something many of us just do naturally. Adding an intentional strategy behind it in service of those you lead just makes it that much more effective. Delegating influence, i.e. connecting your direct reports to key influencers, offers the opportunity for the entire team to gain new perspectives, and breaks up those natural silos that occur over time. It also brings more visibility to key decisions makers in the room determining the fate of promotions and reorgs. Or as they say in corporate, it increases your brand visibility with key stakeholders. More importantly, people get more practicing listening, learning from senior leadership, and an opportunity to self-reflect and share key insights (ideally some laughs too) with their colleagues.

3) Celebrating Success!
My favorite theme to celebrate (pun intended), this week included celebrating client ‘graduations’ and key learnings, as well as finding more purpose and meaning in life. Back to that 6/2 Manifesting Generator I mentioned above, his reflection after our 4 months of work together included this powerful statement (heavily paraphrased):

I’m realizing people are not problems to solve. This is a different way of thinking. I appreciate that you never tried to change or fix me. Letting go of control is hard for me, but I’m realizing it is a burden to carry it. What brings me joy is actually letting it go.

New awareness creates room for more capacity—room to see and do differently—an opportunity to put the learning into practice and get results. In the case of coaching, the results are always a life well lived—a life full of joy and fullfillment.

This theme of celebration was so strong, even my client whoo’s wife passed away last month had reasons to smile and acknowledge his success on his manager’s feedback report. How a 2:15pm on a Friday time slot randomly appeared on my calendar…well clearly that was human error on my part. But the synchronicity of it OWL…well that is just the magic of the universe. It also opened to doors for a coaching conversation around creating ‘success’ in a home without a wife and mom (insert the tears stinging my eyes here). Whenever a client raises their eyebrows in surprise and says, “Wow, yeah that’s good, I had not thought of that…(insert chuckle here) funny how I didn’t think of that before…” that is how you know a life is about to be a little more ‘well lived.’

This theme of celebration continued long after my coaching sessions ended for the day, as did the magic of synchronicities…(insert walking into a wine bar here).

Bonus: Finding My Own Purpose + Meaning OWL while Celebrating!

This Bonus has a back story, naturally. Flashback to February when I donated UT base tickets to an event and out of the 200 guests on the list that day, the woman whooo won happens to be my neighbor across the street and 3 houses down. If that isn’t a sign, well just wait a minute, it gets better. She is the co-owner of the Euphoric Cheese Shop (best goat and sheep cheese ever!) which is .5 miles away from us AND she just opened a Sparrow Wine Bar this month, so naturally I must go and drink owl the wine and eat owl the non-cow cheese (I have an allergy).

Intuitively I just knew this was the place I was going to sit and write my book. From the moment I walked in and saw the place logically I also knew this is where my book would be born, and where I will sit to sign copies once it is published. This is the ‘meaning and purpose’ behind the struggle to write this book that y’all are anxiously awaiting. So when Amy (the owner) walked over to say hello, I had to tell her my plan to write my first tiny book, Mom’s Dead, Dad’s Gay Now, I’m Still Funny!”

Before I had a chance to blurt out the title her eyes grew wide and she blurted out,

“Yes! Oh my gosh, yes! When I was putting this design together I envisioned someone coming here and writing their book!”

And there you have it folks. OWL the reason why my book has not been born yet…divine timing. My timing is rooted in the rhythms of the earth. It is either “on” or it is “off.” And this Quarter/Season of my life, IT IS ON! Understanding my unique Human Design + OWL the research my 1st line profile has compiled over the last 40 years of living has finally aligned into the book y’all want me to write!
